Celebrity choreographer, dancer, and director Ursula Kendall whose work has been seen in the Academy Award winning film ‘Ray’, Superbowl XXXIV with Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tina Turner, and featured in sell-out national and international stage performances, is directing the SHE Created IT 2013 Festival, a two-day community dance workshop series held at the Hanes Auditorium and Dance Studio on the campus of Salem Academy and College 601 Church Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
Saturday, September 28 – Sunday, September 29, Kendall will join The Triad’s dance community with five choreographers that have over 50-years of combined experience in dance arts and choreography. Collectively their experiences have allowed an apprenticeship with Tony Award-winning choreographer and 2010 Kennedy Center Honoree; the restaging of works by a noted TIME magazine ‘Dancer of the Century’ pioneer; recognition as a “Woman at the Helm” by GO! Magazine; Fellowships to Africa centering around cultural, dance and artistic exchange; dance direction under one of the named top ‘25 Indian artists of the Millennium’ by India Today magazine; and dance instruction on a collegiate level. Each of the five choreographers will instruct as a part of the Dance4Love dance and technique workshops as well as perform a shared original work as a part of Choreographers Corner, a special live stage performance.
The weekend will also be host to Beverly McIver, a Suntrust Endowed Chair Professor of Art at North Carolina Central University, who will lead the Woman2Women: Brunch Seminar with national non-profit, Creative Capital, designed to advise creative artists pursuing adventurous arts projects with branding, strategy and career development services.
