(WENN) - Country singer Ray Price has refused to undergo surgery as he battles pancreatic cancer.

The 86 year old went through six months of chemotherapy following his diagnosis, and was told by doctors that his tumor had not grown.

He tells Texas' San Antonio Express-News, "The doctor said that every man will have cancer if he lives to be old enough. I don't know why I got it - I ain't old."

However, Price has ruled out an operation to remove his pancreas and part of his liver and stomach.

He adds, "They said that if you live through that, you run straight to the nursing home. That's not very much of an option for me. God knows I want to live as long as I can, but I don't want to live like that."

Price suffered a previous cancer scare in 2009, when he underwent surgery to remove polyps from his colon.
