The townsfolk are not uniformly thrilled.

Artist Damien Hirst has donated his 65-foot-tall sculpture Verity to the English coastal town of Ilfracombe. It's being installed today.

The statue has proved somewhat controversial ...

Perhaps because the other side of it looks like this.

One displeased Ilfracombe resident wrote, "This is not great art. It is a meretricious attempt at acceptance by modeling the lovely figure of a young girl and adding a brutal slash to reveal the fetus. Soft porn masqueraded as art.”

Another asked, "A statue with a nautical theme would be great but what does a pregnant woman with her insides exposed really say about the town?"

Others were more supportive. One fan tweeted, "Love #verity ! Shes huge, shes preggers & Shes fabulous!"
